Pakistan Trade Agreements With Canada
Canada is working bilaterally and multilaterally to address the global terrorist threat. It strives to ensure that Canadian interests and values are reflected internationally and that the security of Canadians in Switzerland and abroad is strengthened. The Government of Canada condemns terrorist violence in Pakistan, which continues to demand the lives of innocent women, men and children, and recognizes Pakistan`s considerable efforts to combat terrorism. Canada encourages Pakistan to continue its efforts to address all of its security challenges, in accordance with the rule of law and respect for human rights. Pakistan and Canada share more than 60 years of development cooperation. The priorities of the bilateral international assistance program are based on Pakistan`s development priorities and Canada`s comparative advantage, in line with its feminist international aid policy. Global Affairs Canada focuses on gender equality, women`s rights, women`s economic empowerment, women`s political participation, polio eradication and education (teacher training). Canada`s development assistance to Pakistan also includes multilateral programming, partnership and humanitarian programming. In addition, project funding in Pakistan has been provided by the International Development Research Centre. The Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives makes it available directly to local NGOs and, in exceptional cases, international NGOs and government institutions to fund small projects. Canada is conducting exploratory discussions on bilateral or multilateral free trade agreements with the following countries and trading blocs, although formal negotiations have not yet begun:[7] Canada is Pakistan`s 21st largest export partner, with bilateral trade of more than $800.0 million in 2018.
Pakistan`s main exports to Canada are rice, textiles, cotton yarn, jewellery, etc. One of the main imported products, accounting for more than 45.6 per cent of total imports from Canada, is rapeseed, known locally as rapeseed. Most of Pakistan`s exports to Canada are textiles and textiles, which totaled $196.3 million in 2018, representing more than 58.3 per cent of Pakistan`s exports to Canada. Canada pursues a wide range of interests in its bilateral relations with Pakistan, including citizen relations, governance and democracy, human rights, climate change, regional development assistance, regional security and defence, cross-border crime, trade and investment.
